Thesis; looking at the negative space between the subject
of the human form, the edge of the frame, and what
is left between.

"Collaborating with make-up artist Phoebe
Walters, and inspired by Josef Albers’ research on
the relationship of colours, we look at the paint as
if it were the record of what or whom had been
before. conducted in a large empty gallery space,
it allowed me to experiment with the physical form,
negative space, and an ever-changing frame. using
different body masses and different conditioning of
the body, the subjects performed their specialised
body language. the white cube, a central point for the
performance and physical conversation, echoed the
surrounding environment and geometric shapes of
the body paint in a stark contrast to the fluidity of the
natural form. throughout the process of the physical
conversation and performance, these shapes begin
to distort and transfer between subjects, creating
new, different negative spaces between the frame
and forms." - Benjamin Madgwick
