Born in Germany, Lara’s visual language is rooted in a childhood surrounded by performance. With parents trained in classical theatre and ballet, she grew up observing the physicality of performance: gesture, expression, rhythm, and the way a body can transform the space around it.
Years spent looking through her father’s photographic archives further shaped this sensibility. She became fascinated by black and white images of ballet dancers, particularly the tension between the fleeting nature of movement and the strong, sculptural forms it could create within a frame. This became the foundation of her own approach to photography.
Movement remains central to Lara’s work from two interconnected perspectives. She is drawn to the authenticity of a moment caught in motion – its natural expression and energy. At the same time, she approaches movement through a distinctly graphic lens, using composition, shape, line and the relationship between body and space to create images with clarity and visual impact.
This meeting point between spontaneity and structure runs throughout her practice. Whether photographing fashion, sport or still life, Lara seeks to capture a sense of energy through strong, considered compositions.
