Each summer, the uninviting north-west corner of New York’s Tompkins Square Park draws a nebulous community of skaters.
Attracted to the polished concrete floor and collection of city debris, perfect for practicing tricks, the space becomes the home for intimate friendships, shirtless youth and battered sneakers.
Skating was at the heart of the space they inhabited, but over the coming weeks I saw friendships form, fights erupt and each character striving to carve a way in the world for themselves.
