Jameela Elfaki, Well Aware, “SERA”

SERA, a film by Jameela Elfaki, created for Well Aware’s 2026 mission video.

This six-month charitable project was produced by Laird and Good Company as part of our 1% for the Planet and Good Works program. Well Aware works with communities in rural Kenya that are disproportionately affected by water scarcity, an issue that directly impacts women and girls, creating barriers to education and economic equality.

SERA is a short film created for Well Aware, following the story of a mother and daughter. Narrated as a letter from mother to child, it reflects on the stark contrast in their lives, and how access to clean water has profoundly shaped their experiences. It is a deeply moving story of a mother’s love, and the hope she holds for her daughter to fulfill dreams she herself could not.
