Juanita Richards, Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize

Juanita Richards’ portrait has been selected for the final exhibition of Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize, running until 16th February 2025 at National Portrait Gallery.

On a recent trip to the Caribbean Juanita photographed Surf Girls Jamaica, an all girls surf club run by Imani Wilma. In this intimate portrait, Richards captured NyaTafari (right) and Megumi (left). The sisterhood and serenity of this special club rings through in her photograph.

The Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize is one of the most anticipated photography competitions in the world and a showcase for both celebrated professionals and talented amateurs. The selected images, many of which are on display for the first time, explore both traditional and contemporary approaches to the photographic portrait whilst capturing a range of characters, moods and locations.

The exhibition will be on display November 14th, 2024 – February 16th, 2024 at London’s National Portrait Gallery.
