Lara Angelil’s Visual Tribute to Tunga commissioned by Frieze Magazine Lara Angelil revisits Tunga’s performance Xifópagas Capilares entre Nós, 40 years after it was first published, offering a new visual take on one of his most well known works. Tunga (1952–2016) was a Brazilian artist known for work across sculpture, installation, drawing, and performance. His work often combined ideas from science, myth, and psychology. The focus here is the 1984 performance Xifópagas Capilares entre Nós, where two girls’ hair is braided together, inspired by a myth about conjoined twins. The image was first published in Revirão in 1985. Angelil’s tribute brings new attention to the piece, which is about connection, tension, and endless looping form.
