Mei Tao, About A Girl

What is it about a girl that ignites so much debate over its definition. That “acceptable” definition of a girl – who does it serve? Never does it seem to serve the girl living in her body, it does not protect her and it refuses to recognize how she identifies.

Santana is the second child of my husband’s best friend Paul from middle school, she is 2yrs older than our daughter Dashiel. Santana loves being a girl, from the moment she had a sense of self – she knew she was a girl.

Girlhood is a subject I’ve always explored in my personal work, a common thread in my exploration is that a girl can’t be defined, she is in the process of finding and defining it for herself.
