In collaboration with The Gourmand Journal, Tara captures North East London’s Londis, where Anju and family sell home cooked Gujarati food twice a week. Tara was able to document the whole process from their home to the store.
Priyesh: “My grandparents bought this shop in partnership with my uncle in 1979.
Hackney was really different back then. My dad took over in the 90s and married my mum. Each generation makes changes as the years go on and responds to the community around them.
I spent a lot of time in the shop as a kid. There’s customers I’ve known since I was born. My brother’s midwife comes to our shop; she’s so lovely and it’s such a great connection to keep. I have another customer who remembers me doing my maths homework on the fridge and then as I grew up she really helped me with my interest in art. We get customers all the time saying, I knew you when you were a little kid, or even that they knew my parents when they were kids.”
