Des Lewis Interview
Describe yourself in a few words:
Optimistic, loyal, curious
Do you have a routine?
I try to exercise most mornings. I do a mixture throughout the week of running, Barre, Reformer Pilates and spin. I read every night before going to bed. Work wise, as a freelancer I don’t really have a work routine as my day can really vary.
What does home mean to you?
Love, safety, security, comfort, honesty, peace and laughter.
What would you say to your teenage self?
You are good enough
What gives you hope for the future?
The global resistance to the oppression of marginalised people that we saw rising up in 2024.
Please tell me a recipe that is meaningful to you
Jerk chicken with rice & peas, a traditional Caribbean dish that for me, never get’s old. My granny, Beryl passed away just over a year ago and this will forever remind me of her. When I was growing up we would gather at my granny’s house every Sunday after church and this dish was always served for lunch (and continues to be the main dish served at many family gatherings). This recipe connects me to my Jamaican heritage in the most simple and comforting way.
